Plan 2018 - Round 2 Plan 2018 is the process being undertaken this year by the Diocese of New Westminster to develop a Strategic Plan for the next 10 years (from 2008 to 2018). The energy generated from the first round of workshops held in the Fall was so great that six intrepid parishioners ventured on February 23 to Epiphany Anglican Church in Surrey for the second workshop. First we reflected on the 12 words from which the vision and values statements will be crafted. As identified in the Fall Workshops the Values are: Inclusion; Compassion; Social action; Community; Love; Spirituality; Relevance; and then the Vision will encompass: Community; Christ inspired; Love; Growing; and God in our Lives. We joined with more than 40 Anglicans from at least 6 parishes to discern the main issues facing the Diocese and then develop key action statements about the issues (and at the same time keeping in mind the above words). Amazingly, all these mental gymnastics released a flood gate of ideas that poured out of our mouths and which the facilitators at each table tried heroically to capture on flip chart paper to turn over to the consultants when time was up. The next step are that the consultants will distill all of the ideas from each of 10 such workshops and then bring them together into a manageable plan for the Diocese, with lots of input yet to come from Clergy and Diocesan Council. While all of the St. George delegates sat at different tables and results have not yet been collated, some themes have started to emerge. One is the need to consider how to communicate between the Diocese and the parishes now that we have moved from the horse and buggy age to high-speed Internet and Blackberries. A second is the potential for more communication and joint projects among parishes that are geographically adjacent. We will look forward with interest to see what the final Strategic Plan will contain as it is presented and approved at the Diocesan Synod in May. Many thanks to Dave Devitt, Ann Hall, Juliana MacAdams, Andre Rodrigue and Stephanie Vande Kraats for giving up a Saturday to participate in this exercise. We were grateful that the surprisingly hard work of thinking and writing was alleviated by the fine refreshments provided by Epiphany Church, as well as a rendezvous for lunch at the White Spot in Walnut Grove. Leslie Gaudette, Parish Champion, Plan 2018
